British singer-songwriter Dua Lipa is given the title of Honorary Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo in a ceremony held on Friday, August 5, in the country’s capital of Pristina.

Dua, born in London to Kosovo Albanian parents, received the title from Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, who praised the singer’s activism and efforts to promote the welfare of the European nation and its citizens.

“Aside from being a world-class and a once-in-a-generation musician, you are also a role model for many girls and women across the world as a forthright and conscientious activist. But above all, what you have done for the people of Kosovo in raising awareness of the Republic of Kosovo is unmatched and truly invaluable,” Osmani wrote in a letter to Dua.

In an Instagram post, Dua thanked Osmani for the recognition, writing, “It’s an honor and a privilege to be able to represent my country all over the world and to continue my work and efforts globally to see that we leave our mark and make a difference. The youth of Kosovo deserves the right to visa liberalization, freedom to travel, and to dream big.”

Dua was in Pristina for the Sunny Hill Festival, an annual international music festival she founded in 2018, along with her father, Dukagjin Lipa, through their Sunny Hill Foundation. The festival ran from Thursday, August 4, until Sunday, August 7.

She is known for her hit songs such as “New Rules,” “One Kiss,” “Don’t Start Now,” and “Levitating.”
