The 52nd edition of Mutya ng Pilipinas (MNP) returns after it was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. The search for forty official MNP candidates, here and abroad, is now open and the titles Mutya ng Pilipinas 2022, Mutya ng Pilipinas Overseas Communities, and Top Model of the World are at stake.

The MNP 2022 queen will aim to redefine the meaning of women empowerment by embracing a more proactive role in highlighting the theme of “Sustainability & Inclusivity,” through responsible citizenship, respecting individuality, and upholding social responsibility.

“This is an opportune time for beauty pageants to become a relevant platform to uplift and support the future of Philippine women by extolling the virtues of and embracing the potential of the Filipina,” said Cory Quirino, president of MNP Organization.

Following in the footsteps of former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, Nieto, who grew up in Binondo, served as Councilor and then Manila 3rd District representative.

After graduating from the Philippine College of Criminology, Nieto passed up becoming a policeman and instead, accepted the late director Maryo J. de los Reyes’ offer to become an actor. He was most memorable as Nora Aunor’s co-star in de los Reyes’ Naglalayag, which swept the awards during the 2004 Manila film Festival including best actor and best actress.
