Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes announced in an Instagram post on Wednesday, July 27, that he is canceling the remainder of his world tour, Wonder: The World Tour, to take time for his mental health.

The Grammy-nominated singer’s mental health break came after he consulted his team and a group of health professionals, realizing he wasn’t ready for the difficulty of touring after a long break from performing live and in person due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I, unfortunately, [have to] cancel the rest of the tour dates in North America and the UK/Europe. We were hopeful that I might be able to pick up with the rest of the dates after some much-needed time off, but at this time, I have to put my health as my priority,” Mendes said in the post.

The singer also stated that he will continue to make music and will return to touring in the future. He also thanked his fans for supporting him and promised to return after he had “taken the right time to heal.”

Mendes also postponed 12 of his scheduled shows in the United States on Friday, July 8, after being overwhelmed about returning on stage since the pandemic.

Mendes became known in 2013 for posting song covers on Vine. Since then, he has made four albums, earned three Grammy Awards nominations, and became the youngest male artist to top the Billboard 200 charts with four studio albums after releasing his latest album, Wonder.
