Sometimes, we think we have heard it all—until we encounter stranger and more perverse things every day. We try to be positive and see the good in other people’s intentions, but it turns out there is just bad faith—nothing else.
For example, the secretary of communications, The Most Honorable Martin Andanar, recently said the heads of other countries are actually supportive of President Duterte—it is their subordinates who are rabid critics because they are not having enough sex.
We would not flatter him by repeating his actual words.
We cringe to hear a spokesman for the President utter garbage. What an embarrassment to the man he tries to speak for, or ape. What an embarrassment before the rest of the world. Remember this is not the first time Andanar has caused us to shake our heads in disgust.
But he still has his job so we guess this administration must continue to value him, even as we have a hard time imagining why.
Another statement that makes us retch was one made by Aegis Juris fraternity member, John Paul Solano. The medical technologist said that the young man whom their brotherhood killed in September had a pre-existing heart ailment and that this was what caused his death—not the cruelty and violence dealt upon by those he had wanted to call his brothers.
To have a pre-existing heart illness means, as social media users point out, that Horacio Castillo III could have died while sitting at home watching television or simply walking on the street. What an insult to anybody who hears it. We are amazed at the restraint of Castillo’s parents.
Solano and his ilk are still brazenly lying to save their skin when it is clear to all what truly happened to Castillo that day.
It’s a pre-existing condition indeed—to have no reverence for truth or decency.
