Mr. Immigration Man

"If the allegations are true, then this official is indeed very creative."

I rarely engage in blind item articles but this one is too intriguing for me to pass up.

My sources at the Bureau of Immigration shared with me some devious activities being perpetrated by a high ranking official in the agency.

According to sources, this official, whom they refer to as a certain Papa G, has reportedly perfected the art of making one’s name, especially those of Chinese citizens, suddenly appear in the BI’s watchlist, to allegedly extort money from his unsuspecting victims. To effect this, the sources said, Papa G would encode the name of his target victim in the BI’s computer system under his name, making it appear it was the National Bureau of Investigation making such request to hold that particular person.

Hence, when the victim shows up, he will be the one to transact with that particular person. And in exchange for a few hundred thousand pesos, presto! That person’s name would be cleared.

His scheme was reportedly brought out in the open after one of his would-be victims, a Chinese, sought the assistance of the NBI, after he was supposedly asked by Papa G to shell out P250,000 for his name to be stricken off in the Hold Departure Order List. It was discovered then the NBI made no such request with the BI. Still, to date, the NBI has yet to release its findings and recommendations.

According to the sources, this was not the first time Papa G got involved in illicit activities within the BI. As chief of a key division within BI, he allegedly asked P500,000 a month from all of the airports around the country. This was aside the fact, that he supposedly doesn’t know a thing in running an airport, and that his appointment to the post, as he reportedly claims, was courtesy of his padrino within the Department of Justice. In fact, the sources add that due to his incompetence, he would just send one of his deputies every time he had to meet with Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente.

Because of this, he reportedly was stripped of his powers over the Travel Control and Enforcement Unit and the Border Control and Intelligence Unit.

The sources added Papa G has allegedly gotten himself in these illegal activities to support his and his girlfriend’s luxurious lifestyles—sporting Rolex watches, driving the latest Honda model, and checking into some posh hotels.

If my sources’ allegations are accurate, the NBI, as soon as possible, should release its findings and recommendations, maybe effect an arrest, to put a stop to Papa G’s alleged illegal activities.

Congratulations to Quezon City Congressman Alfred Vargas for being chosen as this year’s Ten Outstanding Young Men honoree for Public Service.

“I never expected that one day I would stand here today as an honoree and counted alongside my idols and the movers and shakers of our nation,” Vargas said as he accepted his award Friday night.

Vargas was recognized by TOYM for his efforts in providing affordable house and lot to several communities in Quezon City.

Vargas’ Palupa program was successful in providing several informal settler families with their own house and lot within Quezon City.

Vargas was also recognized for being the principal advocate of the National Integrated Cancer Control Act. He dedicated his award to his mother, who died from cancer in 2014.

The law on cancer prevention will create cancer centers throughout the country, to aid in government efforts in extending financial and other forms of assistance to cash-strapped cancer patients.

With the theme, “Celebrating Excellence. Inspiring Filipinos,” the TOYM awards seek to give national recognition to men and women aged 18 to 40 whose selfless dedication to their profession or vocation has resulted in significant contributions to the welfare of Filipinos and the country, as well as to the advancement of their respective fields of endeavor.

Congratulations Cong. Alfred and to the rest of this year’s awardees.
