The Philippines on Tuesday logged an additional 2,025 new coronavirus COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 309,303, the Department of Health reported.

“As of 4PM today, September 29, 2020, the Department of Health reports the total number of COVID-19 cases at 309,303 after 2,025 newly-confirmed cases were added to the list of COVID-19 patients,” the department said in a bulletin.

The department likewise announced 290 recoveries, bringing the total to 252,930.

Of the 2,025 reported cases, 1,641 (81 percent) occurred within the recent 14 days from Sept. 16 to 29, 2020.

The department made its announcement even as Social Weather Stations said about 85 percent of the Filipinos it surveyed remained fearful of catching COVID-19 some six months into the pandemic lockdown in the Philippines, one of the longest in the world.

Of the 1,249 adults polled from Sept. 17 to 20, 85 percent said they were "worried a great deal" or "somewhat worried" that anyone in their immediate family might contract the respiratory disease. Nine percent were "worried a little", and six percent were not.

This is similar to a July 2020 survey that also found 85 percent of the respondents worried about catching the virus.

The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were the NCR (540 or 33 percent), Region 4A (296 or 18 percent) and Region 3 (239 or 15 percent).

The top provinces by newly-announced cases were the NCR, 628; Cavite, 279; Negros Occidental, 218; Laguna, 108 and Bulacan, 102.

There were 50,925 active cases. Of the active cases, 86.5 percent were mild; 8.8 percent asymptomatic; 1.4 percent severe and 3.3 percent critical.

Of the 68 deaths, 49 occurred in September (72 percent), 12 in August (18 percent), four in July (6 percent), two in May (3 percent) and one in April (1 percent).

The deaths were from the NCR (26 or 38 percent), Region 6 (13 or 19 percent), Region 4A (7 or 10 percent), Region 3 (6 or 9 percent), Region 5 (3 or 4 percent), Region 9 (3 or 4 percent), Region 7 (2 or 3 percent), Region 10 (2 or 3 percent), Region 12 (2 or 3 percent), Region 4B (2 or 3 percent), Region 11 (1 or 1 percent) and BARMM (1 or 1 percent).
