Former Commission on Elections chairman Andres Bautista claimed on Friday he was not aware that he was the subject of proceedings by the Senate as he did not receive any invitation from the Committee on Banks, Financial Institutions, and Currencies.

“To clarify, I was not aware of the scheduled hearings as I never received any invitation for the purpose of aiding the committee as one of its resource persons,” Bautista said in a statement.

“I was only made aware of the hearing while I was browsing through the news online. Prior to this, I had not received any notice to such effect,” he said.

Bautista made the statement following a warning from Senator Francis Escudero, chairman of the Senate Committee on Banks, Financial Institutions, and Currencies, who said that the former Comelec chairman may be subpoenaed for not attending the proceedings at the Senate.

“This statement is being made with regard to my supposed refusal to attend the Senate hearing last Wednesday, December 6, being conducted by the Committee on Banks, Financial Institutions, and Currencies to investigate potential AMLA violations of certain covered institutions,” Bautista said.
