DAVAO CITY”•The people of Davao sent a total of 1,700 holiday food packs containing comfort food such as pomelo and pastries for the soldiers in the battle-scarred Marawi City.

Raul Nadela Jr., the mayor’s chief of staff, said the food packs that the city government sent were its way of saying thank you to the soldiers in Marawi who sacrificed much for the people.

“We sent them holiday packs, a simple token that they could enjoy. Those were from the people of Davao to our soldiers for their bravery,  sacrifices,” Nadela said.

Each food pack was worth P1,000.

“It was our way of saying thank you for their service, for their sacrifice, especially now that it is the holiday season and they are not with their families,” Nadela said.

Earlier, the city government of Davao also donated P5 million to the City Government of Marawi. The city also sent relief goods to the families affected by the siege of Marawi by the Islamic State-linked terrorists.

The seven-month siege left thousands of families in the evacuation center.

Despite the liberation of Marawi declared by President Rodrigo Duterte after the soldiers neutralized Isnilon Hapilon and Omar Maute, some villages are still occupied by the terrorists.

The siege left thousands dead from both the military and the terrorists.
