THREE Chinese naval vessels will arrive at the Sasa Wharf in Davao City for a three-day visit on April 30 to May 2, an official said Friday.
Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao public affairs office chief Lt. Jetmark Marcos said the three ships are from the China People’s Liberation Army Navy Task Group 150.
The vessels are the Chang Chun (DDG-150), a guided missile destroyer; the Jin Zhou (FF-G532), a guided missile frigate; and the Chao Hu (890), a replenishment ship.
The flotilla will be headed by Rear Adm. Shen Hao, deputy commander of the East Sea Fleet of the PLA Navy and concurrent Commander-in-Chief of the PLA Navy Task Group 150.
Marcos made his statement even as Senator Panfilo Lacson on Friday urged President Rodrigo Duterte to raise the arbitral ruling on the South China Sea favoring the Philippines during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit here.
He said studies showed that arbitrary rulings were normally defied if not ignored by the losing claimants of contested territories.
But in the course of time the losing countries almost always eventually gave up and complied with the ruling due to international pressure.
“We should not miss the Asean summit to avail ourselves with that opportunity, lest we would regret it,” Lacson said. With PNA
