FORMER Bureau of Corrections officer-in-charge Rafael Ragos surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation on Sunday morning, an official said.

Justice Undersecretary Erickson Balmes confirmed Ragos’ surrender after receiving a call from NBI Director Dante Gierran who told him about it.

Ragos was ordered arrested by Judge Juanita Guerrero of the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court Branch 204 on Thursday last week along with Senator Leila de Lima and her former driver Ronnie Dayan.

They were ordered arrested in relation to the alleged proliferation of illegal drugs inside the New Bilibid Prison during De Lima’s term as justice secretary.

Citing Ragos’ affidavit, the Justice department claims that De Lima received around P10 million from drug payoffs from November 2012 to January 2013.

Ragos claimed he delivered the money to De Lima’s house in Parañaque City.

De Lima is detained at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame while Dayan is detained at the Muntinlupa City Police Station.

Balmes said the court would have to decide where to detain Ragos while the case was ongoing.

Then Justice secretary De Lima appointed Ragos as Bureau of Corrections officer in charge in November 2012.
