DAYS after the incident, the Department of Foreign Affairs on Thursday released a statement condemning “in strongest terms” the heinous attack on Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov.

In a statement, the DFA expressed sympathy and unity with the Russian Federation over this tragic killing of Karlov, a career diplomat with 40 years of public service.

“The Philippines condemns, in the strongest terms, the heinous attack on Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov,” the DFA stated.

“Ambassador Karlov will be remembered and honored for his dedication to his country,” it added.

On Monday, Karlov was shot dead in front of a crowd at an elite art gallery in the capital of Ankara.

Karlov, 62, was delivering his speech and was halfway with his statement when a man in a dark suit who stood directly behind him shot the envoy in the back from close range several times

After he shot Karlov, the unknown angry gunman screamed “Don’t forget Aleppo.”

The security then shot the 22-year old off-duty police officer who worked in Turkey.

“The Philippines stands united with the Russian Federation in the wake of this unfortunate tragedy and its efforts to combat terror in all its forms,” the DFA stated.
