P 83M-worth of smuggled rice seized in Cebu

Agents of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) have confiscated some P 83.3-million worth of rice that were reportedly smuggled from China.

The shipments were discovered in 21 container vans at Cebu International Airport in Cebu City.

The cargoes were supposedly declared as ceramic tiles.

The alleged smuggled rice arrived in batches from last week of November up to December 1, 2017.

The consignee is reportedly a person from Binondo, Manila.

BOC is conducting an investigation into the incident.

It says, the license or permit of the broker involved in the shipment may be revoked.

About 71 container vans at the harbor are currently on alert status, including the ones used to bring in the alleged smuggled rice.
