The Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Environment Management Bureau in Region 12 has deployed garbage or basura patrollers to address the proliferation of waste in various localities in the region.
Engineer Ronie Salmon, chief of the EMB-12’s environmental monitoring and enforcement division, said they have commissioned at least 12 patrollers to monitor the waste management practices of local government units in the area.
Based on reports of the patrollers, he said they would issue notices or citations to concerned LGUs.
Should an LGU fail to act on it in a given period, he said they would later report them to their central office.
“Appropriate charges can be filed against the erring LGUs before the Office of the (Environmental) Ombudsman,” the official said.
