‘Serious’ prexy bet Dela Rosa willing to be replaced by Sara

While insisting that he is serious in running for president, Senator Ronald Dela Rosa on Monday said he is “very much willing” to withdraw his certificate of candidacy (COC) for Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

“Indeed, I will fight,” said Dela Rosa, adding that he has a fighting chance at winning in the 2022 national elections given his strong showing in the 2019 senatorial race where he placed fifth.

“How big [a fighting chance], I can’t say, but still, I believe in my heart I have a chance,” he said.

“I come with a clean heart – that is my best weapon. I am very much qualified. I am sincere. I am not plastic. I can face all the risks [that come with the position].”

But if the Davao Mayor agrees to be a substitute bet, Dela Rosa he will happily give way.

“If she accepts the PDP-Laban offer to become our standard bearer, by all means, I will withdraw,” he said.

“Very much willing [to withdraw]. Her winnability is so high and her capacity to lead is beyond question. But if she refuses, [then] I am a serious candidate,” Dela Rosa said. Macon Ramos-Araneta

PDP-Laban secretary general Melvin Matibag, for his part, insisted that Dela Rosa was not a “last minute” choice to lead the party.

But Matibag also acknowledged there is no legal impediment should a substitution happen on or before November 15.

“Is it wrong if Senator Bato will be substituted before November 15? The answer is no because even the Comelec resolution allows substitution up to November 15. That is the process that we have to respect and have to recognize,” Matibag said.
