Romualdez sees poll results ‘vote of confidence’ in Duterte

The survey result showing the Dutertes—the President and his daughter Sara—lead in the presidential and vice presidential races is proof of the people’s continued confidence in and support for the administration, House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez said on Wednesday.

Romualdez, chairman of the House Committee on Rules and president of the Lakas Christian Muslim Democrats, said the result of the latest Pulse Asia survey was a “validation of our people’s confidence and satisfaction on the Dutertes’ brand of public service.”

“The Pulse Asia report conforms with other survey findings that show Mayor Sara is the leading candidate in the 2022 Presidential elections. We expect her numbers to climb even higher when the next survey covers the period after she indicated her openness to run for President,” Romualdez said in a statement.

But the secretary general of Sara’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago political party, Anthony del Rosario, said the mayor would not join the presidential race if her father would run for vice president.

“She is not interested and she does not see a Duterte-Duterte tandem,” said Del Rosario.

But according to Romualdez, the voters’ preference for President Duterte was no longer surprising.

“He has the vice presidential post in the bag if ever he decides to seek it in 2022. He is the most qualified, most experienced and most trusted candidate for the job,” Romualdez said.

“For the Filipino people, a Duterte-Duterte tandem is the dream team in 2022,” he added.

Del Rosario said they welcomed the survey result as it showed the “continued support of the Filipino people.”

“Of course having a high rating is definitely a boost for any candidate including Mayor Sara. At the end of the day, she needs to make a decision based on other factors, not only the survey. There are other factors that come into play when thinking of running for president,” he said.
