Government agents raided another facility in south Metro Manila storing medicines and other smuggled Chinese goods and health products.

This time, the operatives of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service seized P70 million worth of Chinese cigarettes, medicines, prohibited surgical masks, foodstuff, footwear and garments.

The CIIS men conducted the raid and seized the items from the warehouse along Quirino Avenue in Barangay Tambo, Parañaque City.

The operation was conducted in close coordination with the Manila International Container Port, Philippine Coast Guard and National Bureau of Investigation.

“The goods were estimated to have a value of P70 Million. Further investigation and inventory are underway for a further case buildup and the filing of charges,” said Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero.

Last week, the MICP-CIIS team also seized P1.5 million worth of Chinese medicines during a raid of a facility in Pasay City believed being used for the treatment of patients infected with the coronavirus disease.

During the raid, the authorities found a makeshift clinic storing assorted Chinese medicines including the “Ribavirin” drug used for the treatment of pneumonia and bronchitis, thus leading to strong suspicion that the clinic was treating cases related to COVID-19.

The bureau warned the public against the use of medicines without the proper Department of Health and Food and Drug Administration clearances.
