3 Chinese held for kidnapping Vietnam tourist

Angeles City—Police arrested three Chinese nationals tagged as suspects in the abduction of a Vietnamese tourist during a raid at a posh subdivision in Barangay Pampanga here Monday.

The suspects were identified as Rouhan Li, Qiang Zhang and Jing Li, all transients and temporarily staying in Hanin Town Subdivision in this city.

Police said the suspects took the Vietnamese identified as Vong Cam Lan, at gunpoint Lan while he was waiting for a ride home at the Jazz Mall Residences near the Tower A entrance sometime on Nov. 18.

The victim, police said, was dragged into a car by the suspects who sped off heading north.

They said the victim’s live-in partner, Law Wan Yuan, a Chinese received a phone call from the suspects demanding ransom money in exchange for Vong Cam Lan’s release. They said the suspects demanded P161,800.

Yuan sought the help of the Anti-Kidnapping Group to rescue his partner safely.

On Monday, the AKG operatives launched an assault at a residential unit within the Hanin Town Subdivision that led to the victim’s rescue.

“No bullets were fired in that rescue operation,” said Police Colonel Joyce Patrick Sangalang, director of the Angeles City Police Office whose personnel served as a support unit during the rescue.

Police Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo, director of the PNP-AKG, said the suspects were composed of Chinese nationals whose modus was to look for prospective victims.`
