Taguig launches own ‘mobile palengke’

The Taguig City government launched its own mobile palengke for residents to have an easy access to buy cheaper food products, and fresh meat and vegetables in time of the enhanced community quarantine.

With the help of the Department of Agriculture, the city initially deployed mobile palengke units in barangays Bagumbayan, Ususan and Central Signal.

Mayor Lino Edgardo Cayetano said the program provides accessible markets for farm-fresh goods in hopes to ease the volume of people heading to bigger markets and consequently prevent the spread of COVID-19. He added social distancing is being observed.

“The markets also provide income for farmers and former ambulant vendors amid the COVID-19 crisis. Very soon, each barangay will have their own community market,” said Cayetano.
