BI reshuffles 800 officers at NAIA

The Bureau of Immigration has reshuffled nearly 800 officials in the midst of an investigation over an alleged bribery scheme for the illegal entry of Chinese workers into the country.

The suspected immigration officers involved in the alleged bribery were accused in a Senate probe last week of asking P10,000 for every Chinese national they allowed to enter the country as tourists and work later in gambling dens.

In reshuffling its personnel, the BI adjusted the shift and airport terminal assignment of some 800 officers, and replaced all team chiefs, according to Immigration Spokesperson Dana Sandoval.

Sandoval, however, said that the reshuffle is not expected to cause a shortage of personnel before the expected rush of travelers ahead of the Lenten break.
