The Taguig City government received the Jose Rizal Award at the Dugong Bayani 2019: “Dugong Alay, Ligtas Na Buhay,” an event organized by the Department of Health in partnership with Philippine Blood Center.

The award is the highest recognition given to an organization or company that conducted mobile blood donation activities and donated more than 2,000 blood units every year.

Taguig City also received a plaque of appreciation for its unwavering support in the advocacy campaign of promoting voluntary blood donations by organizing 60 to 70 bloodletting activities annually.

Taguig 2nd District Councilor and Councilor for Health Pammy Zamora, Taguig-Pateros District Hospital officer-in-charge Dr. Anna Richie Quilatan, and TPDH Coordinator of Blood Donation Activity and Blood Assistance officer Princess Villamor personally received the award during the event held last Friday at the Century Park Hotel in Malate, Manila.

This is the third time Taguig received the highest recognition since it was also conferred with the Jose Rizal Award in 2017 and 2018.

In line with the celebration of the Blood Diseases Month, 258 participants from different barangays and organizations in Taguig flocked the venue to take part in the event which aims to save lives.

The participants were taught the importance of blood donation and the proper procedure in requesting one in case of emergencies. An actual bloodletting was also conducted with donors given free shirts.

The activity, led by the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital, yielded a total of 165 blood donors.
