A ranking official of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ religious group has unmasked the alleged mastermind behind the move to destroy the reputation of its leader, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.
Ingrid Canada, KJC chief administrator, accused her own brother Gregorio “Greg” Canada and his family as those behind the smear campaign against Pastor Quiboloy.
“We have reasonable grounds to believe that he and/or his immediate family are in connivance with some people who are out to demolish the reputation of our Beloved Pastor,” said Ingrid Canada.
According to her, the filing of rape, child abuse and human trafficking cases against Pastor Quiboloy happened following the sudden departure of Greg and his family from the KJC.
Also, the cases against KJC leaders in California were filed a few months after Greg Canada left KJC, and the witnesses described as victims were close to or identified with Greg and his immediate family.
Greg Canada could not be contacted for comment as of presstime.
“One of the alleged victims who provided misleading information to the FBI may be her own daughter, who is now a lawyer but was practically supported by Pastor Apollo Quiboloy from childhood until she became a lawyer,” Ingrid disclosed.
She said her brother and his family surreptitiously left the KJC compound in Davao City in the wee hours of the morning in September 2019, following the call to audit the financial affairs of Jose Maria College, headed by Greg’s wife, and Apollo Air, headed by his son-in-law.
The sudden flight of her brother and his family was very timely and raised doubts with regard to the missing funds of Jose Maria College, Ingrid said.
Greg Canada, 56, was a full-time worker in KJC for 18 years and a personal aide and right-hand man of Pastor Quiboloy, accompanying the religious leader in his daily itineraries and worldwide travels.
To help advance Greg’s knowledge, Pastor Quiboloy enrolled him in an engineering course in Jose Maria College, KJC’s educational institution, until he earned his degree.
In 2007, Greg entered politics and was elected chairman of Barangay Tamayong in Davao City, through the full support of Pastor Quiboloy and KJC with the vision and mission of helping the poor and contributing more to society. Greg was re-elected in 2010 and 2013.
Unknown to KJC, Greg had been misappropriating not only the KJC’s funds, but also government funds allotted for the village, the group said in a statement. Barangay officials are readying charges against Greg before the Office of the Ombudsman, it added.
Among the alleged anomalies committed by Greg was the hiring of about 100 ghost employees in his office, whose monthly remuneration since 2010 could not be accounted for, the group said.
During the time he was in position, Greg allegedly solicited money from politicians, businessmen, and other high-ranking officials who are close to Pastor Quiboloy, claiming it was for Tamayong’s road construction and rehabilitation, the statement said.
However, it was never accounted for nor utilized for its intended purpose, the group added.
It was also discovered that Greg bought a 40-hectare lot in Tamayong using KJC’s funds, only to find out it is inalienable since it is a government property.
Ingrid Canada questioned the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s decision to believe Greg and his family’s “baseless accusations” against Pastor Quiboloy and the KJC.
“At best, the FBI should have consulted us first because the KJC has been fully cooperating with the American government,” she said.
Ingrid said the FBI raids in KJC’s compound in Van Nuys and Hawaii turned into a huge embarrassment for the agency as the accusations have been immediately refuted and only inflicted trauma among several of their members.
