Taguig, SSS seal benefits deal for contractuals

The Taguig City government has signed an agreement with the Social Security System to provide Job Order (JO) and Contract of Service (COS) personnel with SSS benefits and loan privileges.

Taguig aims to serve as a “model city” for other local government units in the National Capital Region for the self-employed program eyeing to expand SSS coverage to JO and COS personnel.

The city was also chosen for other LGUs to emulate because of the care its administration has shown even in the initial stages, when the program was announced.

The accord would enable both the SSS and the city government to build a strong working relationship that would allow JO and COS employees to enjoy the social protection against the hazards of disability, sickness, maternity, old age, death and even unemployment.

Mayor Laarni Cayetano met with SSS officials and the Taguig Human Resources and Management Office (HRMO) headed by Jeanette Clemente to discuss the program.

After the meeting, the Taguig and HRMO officials immediately organized an orientation on the intended SSS program, as part of its one-week information education and communication (IEC) campaign.

The orientation was attended by COS and JO personnel who were briefed on SSS membership, benefits, and contributions. They were given the opportunity to enroll in the SSS program as self-employed individuals with the city facilitating the deduction and remittance of premium contributions.

“As important members of the city of Taguig, your welfare is our utmost priority. Through our partnership with SSS, we want to ensure that you will have the benefits and protection that you need,” said Mayor Cayetano as she addressed the employees in one of the SSS orientations at Lakeshore Hall.

After the one-week IEC campaign, all 1,589 attendees registered for the Self-Employed Program.

Taguig, through its SSS local office, registered the biggest collection of SSS contributions for two consecutive years nationwide, attributed primarily to the city’s good business environment and leadership.
