PAGASA reported that a tropical depression may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Thursday.

However, the storm is unlikely to hit land, the weather bureau said, adding that once it enters the PAR, it will be named “Inday.”

A PAGASA bulletin said the tropical depression is moving west-southwestward at 20 kilometers per hour, an was sighted 1,610 kilometers east-northeast of extreme northern Luzon.

It packs maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center, with gusts of up to 55 kph, PAGASA said.

The weather bureau meanwhile said the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, as well as the Intertropical Convergence Zone, were expected to affect the western sections of the country.

PAGASA said Zambales, Bataan, Mimaropa, the Western Visayas, and the Zamboanga Peninsula could thus expect cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

Flash floods or landslides may result due to the moderate to heavy rain in these areas, the weather bureau said.

The rest of the country could meanwhile expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the Habagat and localized thunderstorms, PAGASA said.

The wind speed forecast for the whole country would be light to moderate, while coastal water conditions would be slight to moderate, ranging from 0.6 meters to 2.1 meters.
