The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Monday reminded the public to observe vigilance against flash floods and landslides precipitated by torrential rains.

“We remind the public to remain alert and be prepared for the increasing likelihood of floods and landslides during this rainy season,” NDRRMC chair Undersecretary Jose Faustino Jr. said in a social media post of the Office of the Civil Defense over the weekend.

Faustino, concurrent Department of National Defense office-in-charge, said the agency would continue to strengthen its “mechanisms, systems, and actions” to guarantee the safety of the people.

“As we observe the National Disaster Resilience Month, I hope that everyone will take part in our call for collective actions towards a safe, resilient, and prosperous nation,” he added.

Last week, some 500 families were affected by floods in Ifugao province.

The intertropical convergence zone, meanwhile, dumped heavy rains over parts of Cebu, triggering widespread flooding.

Meanwhile, a woman reportedly died in a landslide that buried their house last July 9 at the height of heavy rains in Bataan.
