ANGELES CITY—The city government here led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. has purchased a plastic shredder machine that will help in the recycling of the city’s collected plastics into brick pavers, the first of its kind in the city and Pampanga.

This was also confirmed by Lazatin’s Chief Adviser IC Calaguas, who shared that the city has already collected 552,555 kilos of plastic from the “Walang Plastikan, Plastik Palit Bigas” project of the mayor.

The collected plastics will be recycled into brick pavers, facilitated by City Engineer Donato Dizon and the Environmental Management System, Calaguas said.

“Employees will be trained in the recycling process, which will be overseen by Engr. Dizon himself,” she added.

According to the engineer, one of the two purchased plastic shredder machines has already arrived and is now operating at the facility. Butch Gunio

“A bigger machine is incoming,” Dizon said.

The machine, he added, can accommodate even hard stiff plastic-like monobloc chairs.

“When it comes to limit of plastic being shredded, wala pong limit. Kayang-kaya pong mag-operate,” Dizon shared, adding that only trained employees will be assigned for the brick pavers making.

The “Walang Plastikan, Plastik Palit Bigas” project was launched in January 2022 by Mayor Lazatin, through redemption trucks plying over 33 barangays to exchange collected plastic from Angeleño households for rice, with a 1-to-1 ratio, via a schedule.

City officials led by Calaguas, Dizon, and Executive Assistant Reina Manuel donated rice cookers to residents who got the greatest number of rice bags in the initial implementation of the program.

Through the efforts of Mayor Lazatin, the city also acquired the Bilis Walis truck, a truck-mounted street sweeper, the first of its kind in Pampanga.
