The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Thursday destroyed some P14.29 billion worth of illegal drugs in Cavite.

PDEA director general Wilkins Villanueva said the drug destruction was in compliance with Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act mandating that seized dangerous drugs should be destroyed after its presentation in various courts as pieces of evidence.

The illegal drugs were burned at the Integrated Waste Management Inc. in Trece Martires City.

“This is also in response to our mandate and the marching order of our President Rodrigo Duterte to immediately destroy all confiscated dangerous drugs, controlled precursors and essential chemicals to prevent recycling,” Villanueva said.

A total of P34.635 billion worth of illegal drugs and other related items were destroyed through burning at the facility over the past two years under Villanueva’s leadership.
