Government agents have seized an estimated P27 million worth of shabu shipped from the United States during a raid in Taguig City which also resulted in the arrest of two suspects.

The raid was conducted by a composite team from the Bureau of Customs, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force, Enforcement and Security Service (ESS), Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, X-ray Inspection Project.

Port of Clark officials said the importer of the contraband misdeclared the content of the shipment as paints from Silver Spring, Maryland.

On May 22, Customs X-ray scanning examiners found images of organic substances, prompting them to conduct of full physical examination, and they found four foil packs containing 3,982 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu.

The authorities refused to identify the claimants, citing follow-up operations. They, however, said the suspects will be charged with violation of Sections 118 (g), 119 (d), and 1113 (f) of Republic Act 10863 in relation to Section 4 of RA 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Customs NAIA agents earlier seized a smuggled shabu shipment worth P7.4 million and arrested its claimant, also in a controlled delivery operation in Bulacan. The shipment arrived at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) in Pasay City on May 11.

The importer misdeclared the shipment as water purifier from Laos but upon physical examination, the parcel was discovered to contain 1,092 grams of shabu with a street value of P7,425,600.

The Customs bureau formed a team of operatives to conduct the controlled delivery operation, leading to the arrest of the claimant in Malolos City.
