PALO, Leyte–The Department of Education (DepEd) in Eastern Visayas has thanked the support of the local government units (LGUs) and other stakeholders in the conduct of limited face-to-face classes amid decreasing cases of COVID-19 in the region.

“We are glad that our LGUs and our stakeholders are very supportive. During our Focus Group Discussion with them, they really expressed their genuine commitment to supporting the progressive expansion of the limited face-to-face classes,” regional DepEd director Dr. Evelyn Fetalvero said.

Fetalvero maintained that the success of the expansion of limited face-to-face classes depended on the “robust” partnership between DepEd and its stakeholders.

Jasmin Calzita, DepEd regional information officer, said 3,882 public and private schools in the region have implemented the progressive expansion of limited face-to-face classes as of April 18, 2022.

“This is 86.8 percent of the 4,473 schools in Region 8,” Calzita said.

In its general assessment during the opening of classes, the DepEd-Eastern Visayas reported that it went smoothly, adding that “the big factor was the strong support of the LGU, parents, and other stakeholders.”

DepEd-Eastern Visayas also expected more schools to open face-to-face classes “as we progress with the implementation” and “for as long as the health situation will be favorable.”
