Deputy Speaker and Mandaluyong City Rep. Neptali Gonzales II on Thursday dismissed as “fake news” reports which said his office will distribute P1,000.

“This is fake news. It’s not true. Someone received this text. We have already coordinated with the barangays to tell whoever will get the certificate of indigency for it to say it’s fake and it’s not true,” Gonzales told House reporters referring to a text message circulating that his office through a certain Boy Anong will distribute P1,000 in his office at ten in the morning today, Friday.

Gonzales warned the public against such type of fraud which is intended to sow chaos and mislead the public.

Gonzales said that based on the fraudulent text message, any person who wishes to claim the  P1,000 may just present the text message

“This is obviously fake news. There is no truth to that. But we have reported this to proper authorities, and that proper coordination have been made to abort this.. to tell the people that this is a hoax,” Gonzales added.

He added the fraudulent text message also advised the public who received the said text message to bring with them original barangay indigency, photocopy of government-issued identification card ballpen and Madaluyong’s QR code.

The text message also said the funds will be sourced from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

“I appeal to the public not to fall into this trap. This is a hoax, fake news,” Gonzales added.
