New school in Caloocan gets Senate nod

The Senate has approved on third reading the establishment of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Caloocan City-North Campus.

House Bill No. 5739 or “An Act Establish a Campus of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Caloocan City-North, to be known as Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Caloocan City-North Campus, and Appropriating Funds Therefor” was proposed by Caloocan First District Congressman Along Malapitan,

The institution is the first leading state university to be established in the CAMANAVA area which aims to increase the number of free colleges in the city, as well as the courses that students in Caloocan may pursue and those who want to take higher education because there will be a provision for graduate school.

The new university will have short-term vocational programs, undergraduate, and graduate courses. The conduct of research and extension services including open distance learning will also be considered.

According to Malapitan, the new university “is part of his endeavor to provide quality education to every child in Caloocan.”

“My promise is that no child will be left behind when it comes to education in Caloocan City. We hope our proposal becomes a law,” Malapitan said.

Malapitan also proposed a free tuition ordinance for students of the University of Caloocan City and also continued his programs such as educational assistance for students most in need.

Malapitan thanked Senator Joel Villanueva for advancing the bill in the Senate.
