Iligan City Rep. Frederick Siao has vowed to look into more benefits for government workers.

“Among the top priorities for the first half of 2020 are the bills on the professions, contractuals, civil service eligibility and qualifications, necessary leaves and service credits, and civil servants’ efficiency and integrity,” he said.

Siao is the House committee on civil service and professional regulation chairperson.

He said he would also keep a watchful eye on the implementation of the Ease of Doing Business or the Anti-Red Tape Law.

“We must have in 2020 some major cities and towns online and fully-functional as part of the one-stop-shop system and database.

Initial implementation must be rolled out well and fast,” he said.

“Our working target in the House committee on civil service is to complete work on at least one-third of the pending 142 measures in the committee by end of this current session in June,” he added.

Sia is also the author of House Bill 5728 which seeks to grant automatic civil service professional eligibility and career paths to athletes, their coaches, trainors, and management team, who achieve podium finish or set new competition records in international sports competitions.

He said that the next one-third is the goal for July to December, while the last chunk is for 2021.

“We will have several technical working groups working in parallel so we can get more work done in the limited time available to us. Each TWG will be conducting the necessary consultations and hearings in January and February so by March, before the summer recess we can have a batch of bills approved at committee and readied for plenary,” the Iligan City lawmaker said.

“Most of our civil servants and professionals are working in the provinces and local government units. These bills have direct impact on Filipino families out there,” he said.
