Tuguegarao City—A kilogram of cocaine worth P6 million was found off the shorelines of Barangay Bicobian in Divilacan, Isabela on Sunday.

Police Brig. Gen. Angelito Casimiro, Cagayan Valley regional police director, said fishers found the cocaine placed in a black rubberized plastic bag with brown packaging tape floating near the shorelines of the village.

The fishers turned over the substance to the Naval Intelligence and Security Group-Northern Luzon and later, to the Divilacan police.

Col. Mariano Rodriguez, Isabela police director, and Captain Geriyell Frogoso, Divilacan police chief, gave the contraband to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, which has jurisdiction over drug cases.

The substance was confirmed to be cocaine in a series of tests by PDEA chemist Jomar Concepcion.

Casimiro said the “bigtime accomplishment” was due to the good partnership of villagers and police in the area who have been “vigilant and hardworking.”

In February 2018, a blue container with 18 packs of cocaine worth P79 million was found in Barangay Dipudo, also in Divilacan, Isabela.

Meanwhile, a Social Weather Stations survey showed that many Filipinos remained satisfied with President Rodrigo Duterte’s anti-narcotics campaign despite their doubts on policemen’s claims that killed drug suspects resisted arrest.

In the September 2019 poll released Sunday, 79 percent of respondents said they were satisfied with the war on illegal drugs while 15 percent were dissatisfied. The remaining 6 percent were undecided.

This gives a net satisfaction rating of +64, classified by the SWS as “very good,” although it was six points lower than the +70 rating in June and March.

Net satisfaction with the anti-illegal drugs campaign has always been either “very good” (+50 to +69) or “excellent” (+70 and above) in the past 12 survey rounds, according to the SWS.

Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said the survey is a “loud and clear repudiation of the rambunctious political opposition and cantankerous detractors” of President Duterte.

“This, too, shall serve as a wake-up call against foreign countries and entities to take their cue from the genuine sentiments of the Filipino people and cease from their continuous affront against our sovereign state with their pretended or feigned concern about human rights,” Panelo said.

The same survey, however, showed that 29 percent of respondents believe that the police were not telling the truth that killed drug suspects resisted arrest, while 26 percent said police were telling the truth, and 47 were undecided.

This brings the net opinion about the truthfulness to a net -3.

The net truthfulness of the police’s “nanlaban” claims is lowest in Metro Manila at -24, followed by the rest of Luzon at -5, the Visayas at 0, and Mindanao at +11.

“Net opinion about the truthfulness of the police has been at single-digit neutral since it was first asked in December 2016, except for the record-low -20 in September 2017,” SWS said.

Among those satisfied with the anti-drug campaign, their most common reason was “drug suspects have lessened” at 42 percent.

Following the most common reason were “drug suspects have been arrested” at 18 percent and “lessened crime” at 11 percent, the polling firm said.

Meanwhile, among those who were dissatisfied, 51 percent said that “drug trade/drug suspects are still prevalent,” 28 percent said there were “too many killings” and 13 percent said there were “too many wrongful suspects, arrests, mistaken identities.” With PNA
