DOH e-claims system urged for QC hospital

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has urged the Department of Health to allow the use of its free electronic medical records and e-claims systems for Rosario Maclang Bautista General Hospital to enable it to continue its operation in 2020.

“Thousands of local residents will be deprived of needed medical assistance if Rosario Maclang Bautista General Hospital ceases to operate next year,” she said.

“So we appeal to the kind heart of the DOH to allow us to utilize its free system so that our local hospital will be granted license to operate for 2020,” she added.

In 2017, the Health department requested hospitals to have a fully functional electronic medical records from an accredited systems provider in order to be granted a license to operate.

According to the city mayor, the hospital’s information system was awarded during the previous administration to Geodata Solutions Inc., a systems provider whose electronic medical records system is not yet accredited by the DOH for P16.295 million.

Moreover, the Diana Hospital information system provided by Geodata Solutions Inc. seemed to be less than 40 percent operational based on evaluation by hospital staff, according to Dr. Richard Joseph Cabotage, director of Rosario Maclang Bautista General Hospital.

He said that despite being past the supposed delivery date and fully paid since June, the previous city administrator signed an acceptance letter.

He told Belmonte that the hospital was already negotiating with the DoH’s information technology group for the use of its e-claims and electronic medical records programs to hasten the renewal of the hospital’s permit to operate.

“This is the only way we can continue with our operations and fulfill our mandate to serve our constituents,” Cabotage’s Dec. 9 letter read.
