Village chief, tanod killed in Nueva Ecija

Talavera, Nueva Ecija—Despite the Launching of “Patrolya ng Bayan” campaign of the Nueva Ecija Provincial Police Office two days ago, a 45-year-old three-term Barangay Captain and a Bantay Bayan personnel were shot to death at close range by riding in tandem suspects while on their way home in Barangay Dimasalang Sur on Sunday.

Police Lt. Col. Alexie Dimasito, police station commander, identified the victims as Christopher Antonio y Bondoc, 45 years old, married, Barangay Captain and a resident of Barangay Dimasalang Sur, Talavera, Nueva Ecija and Rey Dela Cruz y Enriquez, 55 years old, single, Barangay Tanod and a resident of same Barangay. The victims were rushed to Talavera General Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians. The victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds from an unknown caliber in different parts of their bodies.

Dimasito said the shooting incident took place at around 5:05 after the victims were about to board a blue Kawasaki Bajaj CT100 “Kolong Kolong” with license plate number IV-6843 when a lone gunman on board a black and green Yamaha 2019 MIO Motorcycle of unknown plate number overtook the victims’ vehicle and shot them several times.

The suspect fled to an unknown direction after the incident. Authorities tried to conduct a hot pursuit operation to try to apprehend and ascertain the identity of the suspect to no avail.
