Romualdez joins relief effort for quake victims

House Majority Leader and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez has joined the ongoing relief drive for earthquake-hit North Cotabato, distributing relief goods to families affected by earthquakes in Makilala town.

More than a thousand of non-food items and cash assistance were distributed to the earthquake victims in three barangays of Makilala, including a Muslim area in Barangay Concepcion where he also provided electrical materials to light their mosque.

In his message, Romualdez reminded the tremor victims to be resilient and vigilant especially since aftershocks continue to rattle North Cotabato up to this time.

Romualdez said he and his fellow Leyteños were victims of calamities, specifically the killer typhoon “Yolanda.” But, he said, they were able to got back on their feet.

He was referring to the Eastern Visayas’ plight against Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013.

Romualdez also disclosed that Congress is now pursuing mechanisms to ensure rehabilitation funding and providing quality homes for all.

The legislator has donated P500,000 during his birthday last week and will be divided among five badly-hit districts: One in Davao del Sur, one in Davao Occidental, and three in North Cotabato.

Romualdez was joined by the province’s second district Rep. Rudy Caoagdan, third district Rep. Joseejada, and Mayor Armando Quibod of Makilala.

Also in attendance were former Davao del Norte Gov. Anthony del Rosario and former Davao del Norte second district Rep. Antonio Lagdameo, Jr.

The said relief operation was organized by Tingog Party-list represented by his wife Yedda Marie Romualdez.

Last Saturday’s visit was already the second wave of distribution since Nov. 9 where another thousands of families availed of food packs and hygiene kits.
