President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered a thorough investigation of the collapse of Hotel Sogo branch on Monday while being demolished in Malate, Manila that killed two people, Malacañang said Tuesday.

The President has also asked the authorities to coordinate with the local government of Manila for the conduct of the probe, Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said.

“We are shocked and saddened by the collapse of a portion of Sogo Hotel in Malate, Manila,” Panelo said in a statement.

Cesar Chavez, chief-of-staff of Manila Mayor Francisco ‘‘Isko’’ Domagoso, said the building caved in at 9:30 a.m. on Monday as one of the floors could not bear the weight of the debris from the demolition.

The incident left workers Jerome Fabello and Melo Ison dead and injured one person.
