LPA turns into ‘Nimfa’

A low-pressure area east of Basco, Batanes, has developed into a tropical depression named “Nimfa” on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

“Nimfa” was one of two LPAs spotted by PAGASA, and as of 3 p.m. on Tuesday its center was 640 kilometers east of Basco with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 70 kph. It was almost stationary. 

The other LPA was spotted 95 km west of Iba, Zambales.
