Nine PCG execs suspended for fund mess

Nine officials of the Philippine Coast Guard have been placed under a six-month preventive suspension without pay for misuse of P27 million for the procurement of supplies without a bidding.

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio- Morales ordered the suspension of newly promoted Rear Admiral Athelo Ybañez and Commodore Teotimo Borja Jr. over their alleged misuse of P27 million worth of public funds.

Also ordered suspended were Commodore Joselito dela Cruz; Commanders Romeo Salvador Liwanag Jr. and Christine Pauline Diciano; Captains Julius Caesar Lim, Juancho Avila Maraño and Tito Alvin Andal, and Lt. Commander Fatima Aleli Angeles.

At least 12 retired PCG officials, including former chiefs William Melad and Rodolfo Isorena, were also implicated in the investigation.
