Members of the House of Representatives in the Committee on Justice are casting their votes today on whether or not there is probable cause to impeach Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Lourdes Sereno.

Oriental Mindoro Representative and Committee Chairperson Reynaldo Umali is giving the 25 endorsers of the impeachment complaint the opportunity to convince the committee members to vote for the impeachment of the chief magistrate.

One by one, the endorsers are delivering their statements.

The voting that will take place caps 18 hearings held for the impeachment complaint filed by lawyer Lorenzo Gadon.

House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas commended Umali for the way the hearings were conducted by the panel.

He also criticized Sereno for supposedly moving ahead of the lawmakers.

He said Sereno is even urging them to speed up the process so that she may already defend herself in the Senate impeachment court.

He noted that under the rules, the House has until October to go on with the proceeding.

He urged Sereno to take her time and enjoy her vacation.

Should the House Committee members vote to find probable cause to impeach Sereno, Umali is set to prepare a committee report and draft the Articles of Impeachment.

These documents shall be submitted to the plenary.
