Solicitor General Jose Calida has filed a quo warranto petition against Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno at the Supreme Court.

Calida told the high tribunal that the chief magistrate supposedly lacks integrity and competence.

He said Sereno failed to declare her true wealth.

Calida claimed this was manifested in Sereno's failure to submit about 10 Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs).

The solicitor general explained the petition is another way to remove Sereno from office.

He said Sereno will suffer less if she is removed from her post through a quo warranto proceeding.

Calida claimed she is sparing Sereno from having to go through an impeachment trial in the Senate.

He said Sereno need not experience the sufferings of Former Chief Justice Renato Corona when he was subjected to an impeachment court.

Wikipedia defines a quo warranto petition as a prerogative writ requiring the person to whom it is directed to show what authority they have for exercising some right or power.
