Duterte observing row over NFA rice shortage – Roque

President Rodrigo Duterte is just quietly observing the dispute between National Food Authority (NFA) Administrator Jason Aquino and the NFA Council.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque says, while the chief executive has not made any statement on the NFA rice shortage, he is just quietly observing the developments on the matter.

Roque says, the President is also seeing if corruption is involved in the actions being made by some government officials in charge of procuring NFA rice.

He adds, officials in the executive branch must know the President will not think twice in sacking them if they will get themselves involved in graft practices.

During the hearing of the Senate Committee on Food and Agriculture yesterday, Committee Chairman Cynthia Villar scolded NFA Administrator Jason Aquino.

The senator said Aquino's press release that there was rice shortage caused public panic.

The panic was used by traders to raise the price of rice.

Villar said it seemed that Aquino wanted to force the NFA council to give him the authority to import rice.

The council junked the recommendation of Aquino.
