Party-list group Bayan Muna has asked the Supreme Court (SC) to resolve a petition filed two years ago that questioned the legality of a fare hike at the Metro Rail Transit – 3 (MRT-3).

The group submitted a motion for the high tribunal to resolve the issue.

It pertains to the fare increase the MRT management implemented in January 2015.

From minimum fare of P 15, the figure went up to P 28.

The MRT had cited planned improvements as the reason for the adjustment.

But Bayan Muna Party-list Representative Carlos Zarate said, two years aftet the fare hike was enforced, the MRT's operations deteriorated even further.

"Bulok na ang serbisyo (the service has become rotten)," he said as he explained his group's plea at the SC.
