Transport group insists strike has impact

Transport group Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (PISTON) insists it has crippled public transportation across the country as a result of its two-day strike.

On the second day of the protest on Tuesday, the group held a program under the Light Rail Transit (LRT) station in Cubao, Quezon City.

They were joined by members of Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU).

Piston is protesting government's plan to phase out jeepney units that are at least 15 years old.

Before noon, about 20 persons were in the audience listening to the program of the militant groups.

In Caloocan City, there is no shortage in jeepney rides.

No stranded passengers were seen.

This can be attributed to Malacanang's decision to suspend classes in all levels in both public and private schools and government work nationwide.

In San Fernando, Pampanga, thousands of jeepney drivers participated in a protest march.

In Camarines Sur and Albay, most of the drivers preferred to go to work.
