Malabon City has started cashless transactions with the launch of the K-Card,  debit card powered by PayMaya and Visa that all Malabon residents can use.

The K-Card was the result of a public-private partnership entered into by the local government with the Awesome Group Foundation.

“We want the benefits to go directly to our citizens,” Malabon City Mayor Antolin Oreta III said as he underscored the importance of technology to further boost growth of the city and improve the welfare of Malabon residents.

Aside from functioning as a debit card for local and online transactions, the K-Card will also serve as a government ID.

It also has a wide array of exclusive perks such as free rides for the K-Trike electronic tricycles, fast access lanes in Malabon City hospitals and health centers, and discounts in select K-Card partners, to name a few.

Malabon Mayor Antolin Oreta III (third from right) led the launching of the city’s K-Card together with (L-R) PayMaya Enterprise Manager Tisha Quinitio, PayMaya Issuing Head Raymond Villanueva, PayMaya COO  Paolo Azzola, AGF president Carmencita Garcia and AGF vice president Leonorio Trino Todiño.

Ultimately, the implementation of K-Cards was made to bring accessibility and convenience to everyone – especially the disadvantaged, said AGF Vice President Bullet Todiño.

“If you have the K-Card, you can go to the hospital of Malabon and you could just swipe it,” said Todiño.

“You don’t have to go through the tedious process of filling up forms. You have a card that allows you easy access and makes everything efficient.”

PayMaya, which is part of Smart Communications, lauded Mayor Oreta’s “forward-looking vision.”

“Malabon is actually blazing the trail of a cashless society and we think that is the way forward since we are moving into a digital economy. This will make life better and accessible for everyone, not just only to a few,” said PayMaya chief operations officer Paulo Azola.

Malabon residents can now avail of their K-Card by signing up in the ongoing barangay caravan. Reloading funds for the K-Card is easily done via Smart Money, BDO phone or online banking, Smart Padala store, SM Business Center, and 7-Eleven Cliqq kiosks.
