Lawyer expected to file impeach bid vs. Sereno

A lawyer is expected to file an impeachment complaint against Supreme Court Chief Justice on Wednesday afternoon.

Attorney Larry Gadon is set to submit the impeachment case at the House of Representatives.

Gadon had previously planned on submitting the complaint but he could not get an endorsement from any member of the House.

A verified endorsement from a member of the chamber is necessary before an impeachment complaint can be considered sufficient in form.

Gadon is accusing Sereno of committing betrayal of public trust.

He describes Sereno as extravagant.

For instance, Gadon cites the Supreme Court's alleged "whimsical" and "excessive" purchase of a 2017 model of Toyota Land Cruiser supposedly amounting to P 5.1 milllion.

The vehicle is said to be for the use of the Chief Justice.

Gadon says, the price tag goes up with the bullet-proofing of the Land Cruiser, allegedly at the cost of about P 3 million.

He also narrates Sereno would supposedly stay in posh hotels with her staff and security detail when she travels across the country and abroad.

He adds, Sereno would reportedly fly on business class or first class.

"She uses public funds to flaunt her extravagance," Gadon claims.

House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez has confirmed that this time, at least one member of the House will endorse Gadon's complaint.

He thinks more House members may back Gadon's move later on once they have reviewed the evidence that the lawyer will present.

"Mahirap pag dadalhin natin agad sa impeachment court sa Senado, tapos kulang kulang sa dokumento. Magmumukha naman kaming kengkoy (It will be difficult if we will just bring the case to an impeachment court in the Senate, then we will find out that documents are incomplete. We will look like clowns)," the house leader said in an interview.

Last week, during the "Ulat ng Hudikatura" forum in Cebu, Sereno had said, the threat of an impeachment does not bother her.

"Yan ang masarap sa malinis ang kunsensya (that's what is good about a clean conscience). It does not affect me at all," she had remarked.
