Malacañang on Sunday urged the Filipino nation to continue the country’s athletes battling it out in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“The whole country cheered when Team Pilipinas Gilas Men’s Basketball Team unleashed their top form and once again asserted our basketball supremacy in Southeast Asia by clinching the gold [Saturday] night,” Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said.

“Kiyomi Watanabe and the Philippine taekwondo poomsae team composed of Rodolfo Reyes Jr., Dustin Jacob Mella and Raphael Mella likewise got gold in the 63kg division in women’s judo and taekwondo male poomsae, respectively,” he added.

As of 6 p.m. yesterday, the Philippines has 19 gold, 26 silver and 51 bronze medals.

“Mga kababayan, patuloy po natin ibigay ang ating suporta sa mga manlalarong Pinoy. Puso para sa bayan!” Abella said.

Athletics chief Philip Juico expressed happiness with his team’s overall performance.

Juico said it is a good enough prelude to the Asian Games in Indonesia next year and the 2019 SEA Games to be hosted by Manila.
