House Majority Leader Rodolfo Farinas has read a copy of the impeachment complaint prepared by lawyer Larry Gadon against Supreme Court Chief Justice Lourdes Sereno.
Farinas has talked with Gadon.
The lawmaker informed Gadon that the only time the case will be referred to the House Committee on Rules and the House Committee on Justice is when it has secured the endorsement of a member of the House of Representatives.
Gadon decided to hold the filing of the impeachment complaint yesterday.
The group Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) proceeded with the filing of a separate impeachment case, even without the backing of a House member.
Farinas advised Gadon that if he will go on filing the case, he must have personal knowledge on the evidence he will present against Sereno.
The House majority leader also advised Gadon to make sure he has gathered original copies of documents that he will use as evidence.
Farinas noticed Gadon's charge sheet has attachment of newspaper clippings and he said this could be a weakness in the complaint.
He told the lawyer that he may secure certified true copies of papers, such as result of psychiatric exams and Income Tax Returns from the Bureau of Internal Revenue.
Farinas noted these documents are public records after all.
The lawmaker recalled, when Gary Alejano recently filed the impeachment case against President Rodrigo Duterte, the Magdalo party-list representative failed to produce strong proof and this led to the junking of his complaint.
