Cabinet meeting tackled plight of Marawi evacuees

President Rodrigo Duterte presided over a cabinet meeting on Monday night.

During the press briefing in Malacañang, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said, the event was conducted with precision.

Topic was mostly on the situation in Marawi City and on the relief operations for residents who fled their homes and are now staying in evacuation centers outside the city.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) presented a progress report on the plight of those affected by the conflict.

DSWD gave cabinet members a glimpse on the situation in temporary shelters for Marawi residents.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) gave a report on the logistical support for the camps and while the Department of Health talked about the physical conditions of the evacuees.

As of now, some 84,800 families have been displaced by the clashes between government troops and the Maute group.

The meeting also tackled how students from Marawi City are handling the disruptions in their schooling as a result of the battle in their hometown.
