Duterte signs EO on nationwide firecracker ban

President Rodrigo Duterte has signed the executive order enforcing a nationwide ban on firecrackers.

Executive Order (EO) 28 prohibits people from setting off pyrotechnics in front of their houses and in the streets.

The President declared only community-based fireworks displays will be allowed during occasions like New Year's Eve.

Community organizers must properly identify the safe area where the event will be held.

Duterte has instructed the Philippine National Police, the Deparment of Interior and Local Government and the Bureau of Fire Protection to jointly hold public consultations with local community leaders.

This is for the drafting of the Implementing Rules and Regulations that will govern the nationwide firecracker ban.
