About six-hundred (600) residents remain trapped in Marawi City amid the fighting between government forces and Maute group.

This was disclosed by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Spokesperson Restituto Padilla.

Padilla spoke at the press briefing dubbed ‘Mindanao Hour’ in Malacañang.

He said some humanitarian groups who are bringing relief goods have attempted to reach the trapped civilians in their hiding spots but their efforts have failed due to high security risk.

“There are attempts to help them, but many of these attempts are unsuccessful,” Padilla reported.

He said the AFP is trying to give instructions on possible exit routes to the trapped civilians through text messages and loud speakers.

Snipers from Maute group are hiding in some defensive positions in at least four barangays in Marawi City.

26 civilians have been killed by the Maute terrorists.
